Queens Market

The Christian Peoples Alliance was the first political party into the battle to save Queens Market, and Alan Craig is a key founder member of the energetic Friends of Queens Market campaigning group.

Newham’s mayor wants to bulldoze the market for developers to build a Wal-Mart Asda on site. The stalls will be sidelined and the shops will be reduced. This unique, diverse and thriving market as we know it will have the life sucked out of it – if indeed it survives the disruption and dirt of two years of construction work.

The Christian Peoples Alliance helped collect the historic 13,000 ‘No to Asda’ signatures - Newham’s largest-ever petition. The party has argued vigorously for a new scheme that involves reinvestment of the financial surpluses and collaborative modern management.

"We are working alongside them to save the market and to protect the livelihoods it provides for"
