Press Release

Christian Peoples Alliance to fight every ward in Newham.

Newham Christian Peoples Alliance have launched their campaign for May’s local elections and will be contesting every ward in the Borough. They have also issued a radical manifesto detailing their policies for improving the quality of life in Newham.

In addition to contesting every ward in the Borough they are also bidding to win the contest for Executive Mayor by fielding Newham’s only elected opposition Councillor, Alan Craig.

Amongst their candidates for the Council is 21 year old Tom Conquest who is one of three candidates contesting the Custom House Ward. Newham Christian Peoples Alliance thinks he will probably be the youngest candidate in the country as his 21st birthday was on 27th March.

The rest of their candidates represent a wide spectrum of Newham’s ethnic mix and together they form a formidable and high quality team.

Speaking about the manifesto at a meeting of candidate’s mayoral candidate Alan Craig said –

“This is a bold, Christian Democratic vision that will enable Newham to be transformed through support for the bedrock of our society - families. We plan to ensure that families are given opportunities to nurture their relationships within Newham to help care for the young, older people and the vulnerable”.

"The CPA knows that giving support to voluntary, faith and community groups is not only essential for stability, but vital to help each individual person feel valued and respected within their community. Decision making needs to be at the level closest to those affected too, so that communities and individuals feel involved and are encouraged to seek the common good and not feel alienated and become disenfranchised. "

Alan added:

"With Council taxation in need of substantial reform', we seek taxpayer value in all decisions while ensuring that the values of Christian Democracy that underpin our foundations are not compromised.

Voters deserve a radical alternative at the May Elections. We believe our policies not only meet this challenge, but offers each person a better chance for their future, and that of their friends, neighbours and families."
